What is Lysophar-HQ?

Lysophar-HQ is the name of the pharmaceutical grade lysozyme from Bouwhuis Enthoven. Lysozyme is one of the proteins in egg albumen. The function in the egg albumen is to protect the unborn chicken against certain microbiological infections. Lysozyme can be found in many sources, but the amount of lysozyme in hen egg white is the highest, and therefore it is commercially feasible to extract lysozyme from egg white. It was first discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1922, and identified in egg white in 1945.

How is Lysophar-HQ produced?

Lysozyme is extracted from egg white by ion-exchange. Subsequently, the pH is set at iso-electric point; the precipitate is washed to remove adhering non-lysozyme proteins. By lowering the pH, the precipitate is dissolved. Following, this it is purified by centrifugation and filtration, concentrated, pasteurised by thermal treatment and dried.

Unique advantages

Compared to other suppliers of pharmaceutical lysozyme, LysoPhar-HQ has some unique advantages:

  1. Reliability and continuity in supply. We have our own production facility for lysozyme in direct connection with egg  production, breaking , separating and extracting. Each batch of product produced is subject to a quality review covering retrospective validation of all- in-process controls.
  2. Fully traceable. Eggs used for the production of LysoPhar-HQ are from contracted farms in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The feed used for the laying hens, the history of the laying hens and all further details are known and recorded.
  3. Investment. Early 2014 investment was made in the latest drying technologies for lysozyme and in high-end filling equipment in a clean room environment.
  4. Tailor-made production opportunities based on specific requests of our customers.
  5. Bouwhuis-Enthoven. We have a long-standing experience in producing lysozyme and are a well-known global brand in the food application of lysozyme.

Regulatory issues

The Japanese Pharmacopee has published a monograph for lysozyme, which acts as a world-wide reference. Lysozyme from Bouwhuis Enthoven meets the requirements as laid down in this monograph. Bouwhuis Enthoven is registered as an API manufacturer with Farmatec (the official governmental organisation in the Netherlands) under nr. 6083 API.

A GMP inspection by the Dutch Health Authorities (IGZ) has been carried out and a Certificate of GMP Compliance has been issued.
